J.K. Rowling, the author behind the wildly successful Harry Potter series, recently won a lawsuit that had been brought against RDR Books, a publisher based in Michigan. The win halted the publication of The Harry Potter Lexicon, an all-things-Potter encyclopedia written by Steven Vander Ark, who runs a website by the same name. Rowling, along with Warner Bros. Entertainment, claimed that the book’s publication would infringe on Rowling’s copyright to the series. A U.S. district court judge ruled that RDR did not prove fair use of Rowling's material. RDR has said that it is considering an appeal.
