On the Road, A World-Historical Tour in Book Covers

By Communications Office RSS Wed, August 22, 2007

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Since 1957, the now-iconic book has been graphically interpreted in the form of dozens of book covers from various publishers around the globe. Check out a broader sampling here . (Note that Kerouac himself designed "a commercial cover expressive of the book " that was never used.) On the Road: The Original Scroll was released in the United States last week, and reviewed in the New York Times this past Sunday. Relatedly, Kerouac buffs mark your calendars for Thursday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m. when the Free Library and the 215 Festival will be presenting an On the Road 50th Anniversary Celebration .
