The Free Library is inviting poets to submit their applications to represent our city as the next Philadelphia Poet Laureate.
Applications are read by the Poet Laureate Governing Committee, composed of local poets, past laureates, educators, arts-organization professionals, and Free Library staff.
The individual we seek must demonstrate outstanding commitment to the power of poetry to inspire people across Philadelphia's neighborhoods. The Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term, mentor two Youth Poet Laureates over the course of their term, and engage with the city through readings, events, and a signature project of their choosing. The stipend for the two-year term is $5,000, paid in two installments of $2,500.
Applications are being accepted now through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Find more information and apply online.
