Summer is the perfect time to explore the world around us, to play and be active, and to learn about new things for fun! This summer, students entering grades 2–6 will have the chance to enjoy all the best parts of summer while learning about five different health scientist careers with GSK and the Franklin Institute’s Science in the Summer program.
What do you think it means to be a health scientist? What do you think a health scientist might do or study? What comes to mind when you think of health and the human body?
You might think of nurses or doctors. Maybe vegetables and exercise come to mind! There are many different ways to keep people healthy and thriving, and Be a Health Scientist invites students to explore cool STEM careers through free, hands-on experiments designed to increase children’s interest and confidence in doing science.
This program will be hosted by 24 of our neighborhood libraries, where librarians will guide students through experiments to solve real-world challenges. Each location will host up to five unique programs, including:
- Be a Cardiologist!
- Be a Dietitian!
- Be an Athletic Trainer!
- Be an Epidemiologist!
- Be an Orthopedic Doctor!
No registration is needed to participate. Visit the calendar to find host libraries and their Science in the Summer schedules. For even more learning fun, you can find additional STEM activities on our Youth Services Hub, attend other STEM programs at your neighborhood library, and explore recommended reading with the Be a Health Scientist booklist.
