On December 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Parkway Central Library, the Social Science and History Department will host Bob Weinberg, Professor of History and International Relations at Swarthmore College. Weinberg is the author of the new book Jews Under Tsars and Communists. He will explore anti-Jewish visual imagery from the late Tsarist era to the early years of the Soviet Union, covering popular and official attitudes and perceptions of Russian and Soviet Jewry.
The talk is related to a display called "Images of Anti-Semitism," which is about anti-Jewish imagery and is currently on view just outside the Social Science and History Department on the Second Floor of Parkway Central Library. This display includes some anti-Israel images from the later years of the Soviet Union, but the display's content spans from the 15th century to the 21st. The display focuses on the various ways Jews have been associated with evil; this negative association was initially centered on religious matters but later concentrated on ethnic and economic concerns.
