Celebrate the Spookiest Month of the Year with the Free Library

By Anthony T. RSS Mon, September 30, 2024

It’s Spooky Season, and the Free Library of Philadelphia celebrates Halloween all month long!

There are fun, Halloween-themed activities coming to several of our branches, and we’ve highlighted some of our favorites below:

Enjoy the Rare Book Department’s Edgar Allen Poe collection with “Nevermore Forevermore” | Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.

Edgar Allan Poe was the original master of American horror fiction, and “The Raven” is his most enduring work. This open house allows visitors to view the Rare Book Department’s original manuscript copy of “The Raven,” printed editions of the poem, and other works it has inspired from the 19th century through today.

Make a Papier-Mâché Mask at “Mask On, Mask Off” | Thursdays from October 3–17, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.

Make your own mask in the Education Philosophy and Religion Department at Parkway Central Library! Participants will design, craft, and paint their own papier-mâché masks, just in time for Halloween. Upon completing the workshop, participants are invited to display their creations at the library through the end of October! All materials will be provided, and attending all three sessions to complete your project is recommended.

Create Halloween Crafts at Cecil B. Moore Library | Thursdays, October 3–31, 2024 3:30 p.m.

Cecil B. Moore Library’s Crafternoons will get an Autumn twist as kids make ginkgo roses, watercolor spider webs, 3D wall art, and more!

Torresdale Library will be ‘Haunted’ at “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun!” | Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.

Torresdale Library is the place to be for fun again this Halloween! Aspiring educators from Holy Family University return to help us "haunt" our library. This program can be enjoyed by the whole family! Wear a costume, if you dare ...

Check back throughout the month for more Autumn events at freelibrary.org/calendar!
