Summer is a great time to relax, go on vacation, discover a new passion, or enjoy the new weather — so now is the time to work on your professional goals to set your summer up for success! 

Check out upcoming virtual career workshops for jobseekers at the Free Library, brought to you by Full Circle Group and JEVS Human Services! Workshops taught by Full Circle Group are made possible in part by Citizens. All workshops are free, but registration is required. Participants will be emailed Zoom meeting information upon registration. 

 

Excel Simple Formula Writing and Page Set-up → Tuesday, May 9: 12:00 P.M.–1:30 P.M.

Interested in learning Excel Basics? This session can introduce you to some of the most commonly used features! 

Starting with an overview of Excel interface elements, moving into the selection of cell ranges, and progressing to how to build simple formulas. After that, you’ll learn about some basic functions using the Auto Sum button and Auto Sum List, and other great features like Auto Fill, AutoComplete, and Auto Calculate. How about some tips on printing your Excel documents nicely on paper? We’ll cover some great page set-up features to help you with that!

Tricks of the Trade for Getting Your Resume Noticed → Monday, May 15: 1:00 P.M.–2:00 P.M.

Did you know that Applicant Tracking Software’s electronic eyes scan your resume before it gets seen by humans? This workshop will help you get more interviews by teaching you how to beat the ATS robots.

  • Optimizing your resume so that it has all the right keywords and rates high on Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Highlighting accomplishments that will impress employers, instead of just focusing on your responsibilities
  • Essential Do’s and Don’ts that can make all the difference

LinkedIn Basics → Tuesday, May 23: 12:00 P.M.–1:30 P.M.

In today’s employment marketplace, you need to be visible to companies that are hiring and people that can refer you to companies that are hiring. LinkedIn is a great way of accomplishing this.

Getting started with LinkedIn can be confusing and intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! This workshop will walk you through the basics of starting a LinkedIn account, populating your profile, and beginning your job search using the LinkedIn platform. In addition to enhancing your profile, you’ll be taught how to connect with contacts, track companies, join groups, and look for job opportunities.

Learn good strategies for setting up a productive remote workspace and leveraging technologies for telecommuting/remote interviewing using online meeting tools.

Job Search Strategies → Tuesday, June 13: 12:00 P.M.–1:30 P.M.

Have you been concerned that your job search strategy isn’t on target and you are losing exciting opportunities? Well, you may, be right! Job search is a challenging process requiring many ingredients for it to work well. Most job seekers don’t know all the critical ingredients, and go into a job search without the advantages and benefits a well-developed strategy provides. Thus, a job search is more frustrating and takes longer than it should.

If you have a resume and still not getting callbacks, this workshop is for you! If you would like more interviews, your resume may need improving and this workshop will show you how. There is rarely a resume that can’t be improved. This workshop is for job seekers who have already developed a solid resume and want to improve it.

During this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to analyze your resume from the point of view of a recruiter
  • Costly resume errors to avoid at any cost
  • How to maximize your accomplishments to make your resume more powerful
  • How to handle resume challenges including employment gaps, age, multiple short-term jobs

This will be a good session for job seekers new to computers! Pick up some great suggestions on how best to apply for jobs. Learn some helpful tips on completing job applications and using keywords and phrases to grab the hiring manager’s attention.
