By Emily S. RSS Fri, February 3, 2023

Just announced this week from LibLearnX in New Orleans, we give you the Youth Media Awards!

This highly esteemed collection of outstanding books, audiobooks, and materials for children and young adults is honored annually by the American Library Association (ALA). Selected by committees composed of librarians and other literature and media experts, the awards encourage original and creative work in the field of children’s and young adult literature and media. To keep up with additional awards news and announcements, follow the American Library Association Facebook page.

The YMAs encompass a long list of familiar honors, such as the Caldecott Award and Theodor Seuss Geisel Award, the Pura Belpré Award, Stonewall Book Award, and the Coretta Scott King Award. In addition, this year’s announcements included two new ALA Affiliate Awards. The Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature had two winners: From the Tops of the Trees, written by Kao Kalia Yang and illustrated by Rachel Wada; and Maizy Chen’s Last Chance by Lisa Yee. The Sydney Taylor Book Award, presented annually to outstanding books that authentically portray the Jewish experience had three Gold Medalists this year, including The Tower of Life: How Yaffa Eliach Rebuilt Her Town in Stories and Photographs written by Chana Stiefel, illustrated by Susan Gal; Aviva vs. the Dybbuk written by Mari Lowe; and When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb, also the recipient of a Stonewall Book Award.

All of this year’s award-winning titles can be found in our catalog.
