Learn a New Language with Mango Languages

By Sharyl O. RSS Wed, October 5, 2022

Do you want to learn a new language for career advancement, to speak to new acquaintances, feel more comfortable when traveling to a foreign country, understand foreign movies, or just exercise your brain? Our Mango Languages database can help! With over 70 languages to choose from, including English, Mango’s got it covered. It’s free, and it’s great!

Mango is fun. Its learning method is conversational, so there’s no learning cases and verb forms. You start learning phrases that you can use from Day 1.

Mango will teach you how to:

  • Say hello, goodbye and thank you
  • Make introductions
  • Explain that you are a non-native speaker
  • Explain where you are from
  • Count
  • Ask for and receive directions
  • Discuss sports
  • Tell time
  • Invite someone to join along
  • Request medical help and describe symptoms
  • Speak to a pharmacist
  • Order a meal
  • Understand the local customs
  • Ask and answer questions
  • Use a translate tool to translate phrases into English or any of 70 languages

Mango works by displaying a phrase in English and a foreign language, which a native speaker then speaks. You repeat the phrase and Mango records it. When you play it back, you can hear your pronunciation compared to the native speaker.  It’s easy and it’s private – you can do it from home. Repeat each section as many times as you want.

Mango gets you underway with a new language. It’s not a comprehensive language class, but a starter course so you can quickly converse with people in everyday situations.

Where can I find Mango Languages?

Mango Languages is on the Free Library's Databases page. Mango is available for use at all Free Library locations and remotely with a library card. Mango even has an app that can be used on a smart phone.

Mango is fun, free, and easy. Check it out. Es bueno!
