I Love My Curls Author Janay Anderson Closes Out Summer of Wonder 2021
By Becky S. Mon, August 2, 2021The Parkway Central Children’s Department has been having loads of fun in the sun this summer, with outdoor programming in Shakespeare Park, including storytimes on weekday mornings and special guests joining us for exciting events on selected afternoons and weekends!
We started out the summer with a visit from Stephany Coakley, author of Tye the Dreamer, then celebrated Free Library Dog Day with author/illustrator Sarah Jacoby and her book, Can I Sit With You?.
Soon, this year's Summer of Wonder will be coming to a close on August 13. On Saturday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. in Shakespeare Park, we will welcome local author, natural hair coach, and self-esteem advocate Janay Anderson, who will read from her book I Love My Curls and lead children in an art activity that boosts self-love and self-esteem. Each child will receive free books and prizes (while supplies last). Families will also have the opportunity to purchase a copy of Anderson's book and have it signed by the author!
I Love My Curls is a love letter to little girls with curls. They are encouraged to embrace the beauty of curly hair in a world where children receive more negative messages than positive when they do not fit into a standard of beauty that is not their own. Young readers and caregivers alike are supported in building self-esteem and positive self-identity as they embark on the journey of self-love.
Shakespeare Park is located directly across the street from the Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street.
You can follow Janay Anderson on social media via Instagram and Facebook.
