Artemis Fowl—from Book to Screen

By Peter SM RSS Fri, June 12, 2020

Today's the day: Artemis Fowl takes the leap from book to screen as Disney+ premiere's the sci-fi-fantasy-world-spy-kid-action-adventure-YA film adaptation!

Directed by Kenneth Branagh (yup, that Kenneth Branagh!) and starring Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Dame Judi Dench, and Colin Farrell, author Eoin Colfer's universe of magic and mystery comes to life in a CGI-enhanced spellbinding story. 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, desperately tries to save his father who has been kidnapped. In order to pay his ransom, Artemis must infiltrate an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies—and bring the kidnapper the Aculos, the fairies’ most powerful and coveted magical device.

Whether you're new to the Artemis Fowl series or just want to refresh your memory of the previous installments, here are 5 Artemis Fowl-centric titles you can check out either before or after you view the new movie!

The Artemis Fowl Files by Eoin Colfer

The Fowl Twins by Eoin Colfer
This adventure concerns Artemi's younger twin brothers, Myles and Beckett. The two are left in the care of house security (NANNI) for a single night, and they end up befriending a troll who has clawed his way through the earth's crust to the surface. Unfortunately for the troll, he is being chased by a nefarious nobleman and an interrogating nun, who both need the magical creature for their own gain, as well as a fairy-in-training who has been assigned to protect him. Along the way, they get shot at, kidnapped, buried, arrested, threatened, killed (temporarily), and discover that the strongest bond in the world is not the one forged by covalent electrons in adjacent atoms, but the one that exists between a pair of twins.
