Celebrating the Free Library Book Bike on Bookmobile Day!

By Kate C. RSS Wed, April 22, 2020

Today is National Bookmobile Day – part of the American Library Association's 2020 National Library Week festivities – and we thought it was a good time to remind you about the Free Library Book Bike!

National Bookmobile Day celebrates our nation's bookmobiles and the dedicated library professionals who provide this valuable and essential service to their communities every day.

The Free Library Book Bike was built by Philadelphia-based Haley Tricycles and introduced in 2016, providing mobile outreach services to schools, community organizations, and at events throughout Philadelphia. Pedaled by library staff, Book Bikes can be used to transport materials and literally put the library on the move! The Free Library currently has three Book Bikes providing services to Center City, South Philly, and West Philly communities at events like storytimes, Parks on Tap, and more, where we talk to the public about the Free Library’s programs and services, sign new patrons up for their very own library cards, and check out books, too!

While in-person library events are currently on hold until our buildings reopen, we hope to be able to see you—Book Bike and all—very soon! Don't forget to look for it on the roads and at your community event!
