This National Library Week, we have reflected on the many fantastic resources, programs, and events the Free Library offers. Even though our doors are temporarily closed and many of our programs have been cancelled, our librarians and library workers have been working hard to continue serving Philadelphia communities during this time of crisis. They are making sure that the Free Library’s digital resources are available and accessible to members of our community as well as moving events and programs to the virtual sphere.
Today, in this spirit of reflection, and to commemorate the work our staff is doing to support our community during this time, we are observing a new and special day of philanthropy: Library Giving Day! Only in its second year, Library Giving Day was formed to celebrate all the incredible work done in library systems throughout North America.
The Free Library of Philadelphia serves as a cornerstone of our City, and a gift today will help ensure that we can continue to serve as this pillar, especially for those who need us most. If you can, please consider donating to the Free Library Fund today. While the City of Philadelphia provides for the Free Library's facilities and infrastructure, nearly a third of our annual budget relies on private support for public programs, from generous individuals like you.
Today is the perfect opportunity to show your Free Library love. Use the hashtag #LibraryGivingDay on social media and tag @FreeLibrary to share your favorite memories at the Free Library, what you are looking forward to most when we reopen, or what library resources you are using at home.
This is a difficult time, but the past few weeks have shown that we are a strong, united community, and that we will get through this crisis and be able to come together again. On this day of goodwill, during this time of physical distance and uncertainty, join us in this new movement to celebrate the Free Library and the communities we serve!
