For literature enthusiasts and first-time readers alike, Ulysses can be every bit as daunting as it is thrilling. If you’ve always wanted to read James Joyce’s masterpiece, or are eager for any excuse to revisit it, The Rosenbach is kicking off Ulysses Every Day, a daily challenge to inspire you to finish it by Bloomsday on June 16.

Starting today, April 15 at 12:00 p.m., The Rosenbach will post a short video of someone from the community reading aloud a major passage from the novel. Videos will be posted on The Rosenbach's website and YouTube channel to follow along every day or read at your own pace. Join the Ulysses Every Day Facebook group for daily alerts and to discuss the book with your fellow readers, the Rosenstaff, and special guests who will join along the way.

The Rosenbach is home to James Joyce’s handwritten manuscript for Ulysses and it is among the premier treasures in the collection. Joyce has been called the greatest 20th-century novelist writing in English. Ulysses is his masterpiece. Dr. Rosenbach owned a first edition of the novel – the banned book had been smuggled into the country for him in 1922. He purchased the manuscript at the auction of lawyer John Quinn’s collection in 1924. (Quinn had defended Joyce and his publishers against obscenity charges under the Comstock laws in 1920.)
