As part of our ongoing series of blog posts highlighting our awesome staff throughout the Free Library of Philadelphia, today we take some time to speak with Faith Smallwood, an Administrative Assistant at the Regional Operations Center (ROC). The ROC, located at the intersection of 34th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue, is a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled facility that houses the library’s bound volumes of magazines and academic journals, in addition to older directories, yearbooks, almanacs, and books.
 

What is your role with the Free Library of Philadelphia?
I am an Administrative Assistant at the Regional Research and Operations Center (ROC), the Free Library’s offsite facility.

What do you wish more people knew about the library where you work?
The ROC is where most of our reference books and periodicals were relocated during Parkway Central Library's renovations. Our super sorter, which automates the distribution of our materials throughout the library system, is also located here.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your job?
I take pride in a job well done. This is achieved in part with our automation technology that assists us in shipping materials in a timely manner.

What are you currently reading/watching?
Becoming by Michelle Obama.

Where’s your favorite place to read in Philly?
I enjoy reading on the campus of Pennovation Works.
