As part of our ongoing series of blog posts highlighting our awesome staff throughout the Free Library of Philadelphia, today we take some time to speak with Brandon Waddington, a Digital Resource Specialist at the Kensington Library. In addition to his duties serving the Kensington Library community, Brandon conceived the idea for the Free Library’s musical instrument lending collection, which just celebrated its third anniversary and has grown into one of our most popular library programs!

What is your role with the Free Library of Philadelphia?
I work as a Digital Resource Specialist at the Kensington Library. I assist in orienting people with using computers, tablets, databases, and digital resources.
 

What do you wish more people knew about the library where you work?
There is a lot of useful, engaging, and innovative programming, and a staff of people invested in the sharing of ideas, information, and resources. On any given week, you can find programs from Computer Lessons to Open Mic Nights, Minecraft, Community Health Workshops, and Dungeons and Dragons.
 

What is the most satisfying aspect of your job?
I’m a helpful person by nature and I take satisfaction in assisting people in their endeavors. I like knowing that in fulfilling my duties I can have a positive impact on the community I serve.
 

What are you currently reading/watching?
Recently, I’ve gotten really into houseplants and indoor gardening. Anja Flehmig’s Indoor Plants for Beginners has been a go-to book for me. I’ve also been re-reading Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Where’s your favorite place to read in Philly?
Especially during the Spring and Fall, my favorite spot to read is by the fountain at Logan Square.
