Ever wanted to enjoy the streets of Philadelphia without the hustle and bustle of traffic? This Saturday, August 3, you’ve got that chance as Philly Free Streets returns to North Broad Street from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Philly Free Streets is a people-powered initiative of the City of Philadelphia, with the route temporarily closing to cars and inviting people to walk, bike, and play along! This year’s route is an eight-mile round trip from Arch Street to Butler Street on Broad Street. There is no formal start or stop.
So, where do we come in? The Free Library’s Nicetown-Tioga Library – located at 3720 North Broad Street – falls along the route and will be open special hours to join in the celebration! Come visit from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to enjoy the library, or visit our table outside to learn more about what we do. An open mic session will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the library’s meeting room, and we'll also have street and sidewalk art and book giveaways!
Be sure to stop by the Nicetown Library on your way up (or down!) Broad Street, and don’t forget to tag us in your social media posts using the #PhillyFreeStreets hashtag!
People are encouraged to join the route by taking SEPTA’s Broad Street Line anywhere between City Hall and Erie stations, or by exiting the Market-Frankford El at 15th Street.
Philly Free Streets is managed by the City of Philadelphia's Managing Director's Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, & Sustainability.
