Do the Bop and Cha-Cha at Olney Library!

By Joy K. RSS Mon, July 29, 2019

When you hear the dance music playing at the library, you know summer has begun in Olney!

For the past four summers, the North 5th Street Revitalization Project and Greater Olney Library have co-sponsored Bop and Cha Cha classes.

Stephanie Michel, Director of North 5th Street Revitalization Project, says, "As a co-sponsor of this event with funding from Councilwoman Cherelle Parker, it's such an honor to be able to provide this dance class to the community, as it acts as an opportunity to connect neighbors across generations while being active!"

The class is anticipated every summer, and our patrons ask for the dates in March, so they can add it to their calendars! Participants return year after year and bring their friends, partners, and grandchildren. Since many are beginners, it helps that our instructor, Ms. Melissa Palmer, shares her expertise in such a fun and enjoyable manner. Music, as well as laughter, can be heard from our upstairs meeting space.

According to one of our attendees who returned this summer, "I said I'm going to coming back again, because...I'm so excited!! Thank y’all for having this, thank you for having this class."

For those who think it is too difficult, another woman explained, "It will get easier and it’s fun!"

Bop and Cha-Cha classes will continue on Mondays throughout August at 6:30 p.m. This free class is open to all ages, and families are encouraged to attend together! Dancing partners aren’t required.
