We're a week away from the scariest, spookiest, most superstitious night of the year—Halloween! If you are looking for something to watch to get you in the holiday spirit, look no further than the eclectic selection of macabre movies currently being streamed on Hoopla.
Our f(r)iends at Hoopla have really outdone themselves this year with multiple, curated watch lists, filled with streaming screams spanning the interests from hardcore horror hounds to family-friendly frights. All you need to watch is your library card... if you dare!
Hoopla Horror Nights
This Halloween season, Hoopla has brought together a special collection of cult classics and modern mayhem, with a new movie released and ready to stream each day throughout the month of October. Highlights so far have included the alarming anthology V/H/S , the silent film-era classic Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde, and the director's cut of Clive Barker's modern-day monsterama Nightbreed. I'm curious what films will be added to the list in the next week leading up to Halloween!
Halloween Horrors
There's really too many ghastly good movies to list in this collection, but I will recommend checking out these three compilation videos: Monster Madness: The Golden Age of Horror, The 50 Best Horror Movies You've Never Seen, and 100 Years of Horror (hosted by Hammer Films horror icon Christopher Lee!). They are great Halloween and horror history lessons, both frightening and fascinating!
Halloween Movies for Kids
There's plenty of chilling children's videos to choose from as well this year including a number of picture book adaptations with haunting Hollywood voice-over talent like Room on the Broom with Gillian Anderson and Simon Pegg, and The Gruffalo with Helena Bonham Carter. There are classic cartoons such as Casper The Friendly Ghost and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, as well as recent releases Dear Dracula and Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom.
It's So Bad, It's Good
If you want more laughs than scares, these movies will tickle your funny bone. They defy description. They are beyond B-movies. What else is there to say about movies like Birdemic, Frankenhooker, and Monster Beach Party A-Go-Go. They truly need to be seen to be believed!
Happy Streaming and Screaming this Halloween with Hoopla!
