On a recent Wednesday afternoon, 20 recent immigrants and refugees to the United States streamed into a shiny commercial-size kitchen on the fourth floor of the Free Library of Philadelphia's central branch.

The interactive children's theater company StoryUP! has teamed up with the Free Library of Philadelphia to produce the series, which will run until June. By using comedy and storytelling the shows give children a literacy lesson while having fun.

That said, social entrepreneurship just demanded a hell of a lot of attention, because the Free Library of Philadelphia is opening up a whole department dedicated to fostering the growth of new social enterprises and nonprofits. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is expected to have its own space in the Central branch in the next three to five years, but programming is launching in the next few weeks.
