Words at Play Vocabulary Initiative Enters Its Second Year!

By Sarah S. RSS Fri, January 22, 2016

We are happy to announce that the Words at Play Vocabulary Inititative is entering its second year! This PNC-funded program is a fun, family-focused series of programs in the North Philadelphia neighborhoods surrounding our Widener and Cecil B. Moore neighborhood libraries. Children from birth to age five and their parents gather at the libraries or community sites for stories, songs, and activities. We know that parents are a child's first teacher, so our mission is to provide parents with the tools to help increase their child's vocabulary.

The Free Library of Phialdelphia is partnered with the Philadelphia Zoo, The Franklin Institute, Kimmel Center, and Philadelphia Museum of Art, so our programs are full of great books, live animals, science experiments, and lots of catchy songs. Families leave each event with free books and tips for extending their child's vocabulary at home.

Upcoming Words at Play events include a Family Fun Trip to The Franklin Institute, Play Parties at the Widener Library in February, and Block Parties this spring and fall.

If you live in North Philly, we hope to see you soon at a Words at Play event!
