I've written before about some of my favorite Young Adult titles this year, but I'm not the only librarian who loves reading YA. In October, three of our librarians—Erin H. from Philadelphia City Institute, Abbe K. from Philbrick Hall at the Parkway Central Library and myself (hi I'm Rachel F., I am the Young Adult Materials selector for the Free Library!) hosted a Book Blast for Teen Read Week. (In case you were wondering, Teen Read Week is a literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association to encourage teens to be readers and library users.)

We book-talked our 50 Favorite YA titles of 2015 to a rapt audience of teens—I mean, we may have stunned them into silence with snacks, but real, live, excellent, patient, and excited teens were there!

Thanks to donations from generous publishers—like Albert Whitman & Company, Algonquin Young Readers, Bloomsbury Children’s Books, Henry Holt and Company, Hyperion Books, Lerner Publishing Group, Macmillan Children’s Books, Simon & Schuster Education and Library, and Soho Press—we had giveaway copies of many of the Book Blast titles for our teens to take home. You might not be able to tell from the pictures, but trust me, these guys were beyond excited about these books—it was like a book free-for-all.
