Check Out Our New Health Corners!

By Autumn M. RSS Tue, December 8, 2015

The Free Library continually seeks ways to provide the best health information and resources for our users. One of our exciting ventures is the newly established Health Corners in three neighborhood libraries in West Philadelphia. These dedicated areas at Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional, Kingsessing, and Paschalville Libraries offer the public a private space to investigate questions and concerns they have about their health. With a computer, printer, online access, books, brochures, magazines, and more, the Health Corners offer a variety of resources from which you can learn about everything from healthy eating to your prescriptions to heart health to disease—all for free!

One of the best online resources for any type of medical research, which you can access from the Free Library’s electronic resources, is MedLine Plus, a comprehensive site stocked with videos, studies, and articles about countless health topics. In addition to the free resources available at the Health Corners, the libraries have periodic programming with nursing students from the University of Pennsylvania, who offer a variety of interactive and info-packed sessions for children and adults based on suggestions by patrons from the neighborhoods around the libraries. Check with your librarians at Blackwell, Kingsessing, or Paschalville to find out how to access the Health Corners and about upcoming programs and other services.

We’re happy to note that the Health Corners are made possible by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine—Middle Atlantic Region and in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and University of Pennsylvania Biomedical Library.
