#FLPNoShameNovember, in Cold Blood

By Kalela W. RSS Fri, November 13, 2015

I used to watch a lot of true crime shows. My roster? Fatal Vows, Nightmare Next Door, Snapped, Homicide Hunter, and Stalked, which told the stories of real crimes and how they were solved—if they were solved. Some are skeptical of such shows, but I liked feeling the chills up my spine while I was snuggled in my bed, and I liked learning about the clues detectives found and unraveled to catch these twisted minds.

Now that I’m more budget conscious, I don’t have cable, but I get my thrills by checking out books at the Free Library. There’s a treasure trove of true crime books, so I can keep feeding my guilty pleasure. And reading is even better than watching TV, because I can get lost in a story the way that only books allow you to do. I can’t quite explain why I like tales of murder and mayhem—I just do. They’re so bad, they’re good! And, at least reading hair-raising stories is the only depravity I’m guilty of …

Check out the catalog for the bone-chilling, hair-raising books at the Free Library!

For the entire month of November, Free Library staff will be embracing our so-called “guilty pleasures” without embarrassment! Join in and show us your pride for whatever you’re reading, watching, or listening to by snapping a photo with the hashtag #FLPNoShameNovember. We’ll feature your photos on our social media accounts and curate a list of the now-shameless titles!

You should never feel 'guilty' for loving something that brings you any kind of joy. There's not enough in this world and to hide it or make someone feel l like they can't express it because what they love (or the act of loving it) isn't cool just perpetuating the circle of saddness. Be yourself. Love what you love and don't feel the need to hide it.
