Celebrate Philly Photo Day 2015 with a Hands-on Photography Workshop for Adults over 50
By Laura S. Tue, September 29, 2015Calling all creatives and burgeoning photographers! On Friday, October 9, 2015, the 6th Annual Philly Photo Day will celebrate photography as an art form, with the Greater Philadelphia region as the subject.
In a region where the photographic backdrop to life’s coolest moments are some of America’s greatest architecture and historical sites, the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) invites individuals from across Greater Philadelphia to capture an image depicting a day in the life of their region, over the course of 24 hours. Snap a picture with a fancy Nikon, an iPad, or just the phone in your pocket ON October 9, and upload it to the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center website by October 14. Every image will be printed for a vast public exhibition presenting an uncensored reflection of the Greater Philadelphia region—from thousands of diverse lenses—that will open at PPAC on November 12, 2015. From the photos submitted, three of the best will be selected for display on SEPTA platform posters throughout the region.
Are you interested in learning how to use digital cameras and take better pictures? The Print and Picture Collection at Parkway Central Library will host a three-hour hands-on photography workshop for adults over 50 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9.
No camera? No problem! An instructor from Philadelphia Photo Arts Center will provide cameras and instruction. Participants will learn basic camera techniques, along with the elements of composition. Following the presentation, instructors will lead participants on a guided photowalk and assist them while they photograph. All participants will have the opportunity to review and discuss their photographic works before selecting their final photograph for Philly Photo Day submission.
Registration is required and capped at 15 participants. Please call the Print and Picture Collection at 215-686-5405 or email erefpix@freelibrary.org to register.
