Author Events Galore and Free Library in the News: August 3-7, 2015

This week's press round-up is sparse, but gives a preview of some exciting author events happening at the Library soon and also looks back at a couple fun past events . From chick-lit machine Jennifer Weiner to punk poet Patti Smith, from former President Jimmy Carter to femist funny-woman Caitlin Moran, so many fascinating people have graced and will visit the Free Library! ‘In Her Shoes’ author Jennifer Weiner signs new novel

The author of "In Her Shoes," the Philly-based novel adapted into a film starring Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine, will sign copies of her new story Tuesday, August 11.

Weiner, who grew up in Connecticut but calls Philly home, has worked as a reporter in central Pennsylvania, in Kentucky and at The Philadelphia Inquirer. She’s currently a contributing writer for The New York Times and has been published in dozens of magazines, including Redbook, Glamour and Cosmopolitan. (appears 8/11)

 

Patti Smith’s book tour will stop at the Free Library of Philadelphia

In addition to M Train, Smith is also releasing a collection of lyrics to coincide with the 40th anniversary of her seminal 1975 album Horses. The book tour in support of these brings Smith to the Free Library of Philadelphia on Friday, November 6th.
