Krupp + Nelson : Two Artist Talks at the Print and Picture Collection

By Laura S. RSS Tue, March 24, 2015

The Print & Picture Collection is pleased to announce two artist talks in conjunction with the current exhibition in the Print & Picture Collection Hallway Gallery.

Join us Wednesday April 1,  at 6:00 p.m. for The Influence of Place, a talk by artist Andrea Krupp.

Andrea Krupp is a painter, printmaker, and book artist. She is also a diarist, a rare book conservator and word-hoarder. This exhibition of recent work explores her connection with place, in this case, Ólafsfjörður in North Iceland. Through the filter of memory and the processes of image making, she synthesizes her experience of landscape and light into artwork that is interior and personal. Her artwork reflects the ephemeral here and now and reaches for deeper connection to both the private moment and the community that views her work. She lives and works in Philadelphia.

Andrea Krupp will talk about the influence of "place," and new ways of thinking and creating in response to that influence.

On Wednesday, April 8, at 7:00 p.m., artist Catherine Nelson presents “Curiouser and Curiouser!"

Catherine Nelson is an artist delving into the intersection of printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. Her work is motivated by a sense of wonder at the everyday: a hole in a wall gives way to a wild cave, a crack in the sidewalk morphs into a nebula in another galaxy, sap crawling down a tree gives way to a volcanic eruption. She likes making big things small and small things big. Her prints build up through improvisation with materials, leveraging the power of printmaking to repeat and expand on imagery. Nelson also hand-prints a monthly zine called “Puncture” to experiment with and trade new ideas. Currently she is exploring how movement in a drawing can shape a book. She lives and works in New Orleans.

Catherine Nelson will talk about her experimental prints and artists’ books.

Krupp + Nelson continues through April 10, 2015. This exhibition is part of the 2014 Call for entries program. This project is made possible through the support of the Friends of the Print and Picture Collection and the Robert F. Looney Fund.

Please join the Friends of the Print & Picture Collection for our next meeting on Wednesday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m. (preceding Catherine Nelson’s talk). The Friends of the Print and Picture Collection helps to promote the Free Library’s unique public collection of fine art prints, photographs, drawings, artists' books, historical prints and circulating images. Members include artists working in various media, collectors, and individuals interested in the arts and supporting the collection. We welcome new members.
