Read with your children this winter break!

This winter break, the Free Library of Philadelphia encourages you to spend some quality time with your children reading some great books together! Shared reading time is great way for your child to build his or her literacy skills—and it’s also a great way to go on countless adventures right from the cozy comfort of your living room sofa.

The Free Library offers a ton of great resources and tips for reading with your children on our Kids’ Pages. From book reviews and suggestions to best practices for helping your little ones engage with books and get excited about reading, our Kids’ Pages are a great resources for parents and caretakers of children of all ages. The Free Library also features a monthly early literacy calendar right here on our blog with daily suggestions rooted in best practices for engaging your little ones with books and reading. Plus, our children’s librarians have put together a great list of reading suggestions for the cold winter months, including:

In addition to the many wonderful books you can check out from your neighborhood library, the Free Library also has great online resources for children, including Tumblebooks, an online collection of animated, talking picture books that teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are streaming media, not downloadable ebooks. To access TumbleBooks, you will need an internet connection and computer or device with a Flash-compatible web browser.

Giving your children the gift of literacy and a love of books is perhaps the greatest gift of all, one that will help them lead a successful, thoughtful, and fulfilling life. Get reading with your children today with the help of the Free Library’s great resources!

Is it possible to download streaming videos from the free library. Opaque instructions on how to return an ebook implied that streaming videos were available there.

Hello Dorothy - Yes. The Free Library does offer streaming videos online. We have videos available on Hoopla, Overdrive, and IndieFlix.
