October 2014 Early Literacy Calendar

The air is filled with a crisp Autumn breeze as it flips the calendar page to October. Traditional and unique holidays this month include World Smile Day the first Friday of the month, the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur on October 3rd, World Teacher's Day on October 5th, and probably the most anticipated holiday in October for little ghouls and goblins, Halloween!

Speaking of, here's a cute little video and song that to get your children in the Halloween spirit!

This month's calendar and links, compiled by Free Library of Philadelphia's children's librarians, is once again full of great suggestions that parents and caregivers can engage in with their children to help nurture and develop the five necessary Early Literacy skills of Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing, and Playing.
