Happy first week of fall! Leaves are getting crunchy, the air is getting chilly, and we're ready to settle in for a bit of cozy reading. Here are some of our favorite children's books about fall.
(And by the way, check out our new, redesigned Kids' Pages on the Free Library of Philadelphia website! You'll find librarian-created booklists for different grade levels, recommendations for children's games and apps, information on homework help, and upcoming children's programming at our fabulous Free Library of Philadelphia locations.)
And now, on to the books!
Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson
This book invites readers to tap, rub, and blow a kiss to the star of this book, an apple tree experiencing the seasons (and a new bird family).
Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert
It's amazing what Ehlert can achieve with leaves, paper, and bits of found materials. Here, she tells the story of a sugar maple tree from seed to tree, including its many bird and squirrel visitors.
Leaves by David Ezra Stein
A favorite among children's librarians, Leaves is a gentle, sweet story of Bear's first year. At first, he worries when leaves start falling all over his island. But then he starts to get sleepy (as most bears do in the fall) and hibernates until... SPRING!
