Books about Soccer for Little Ones - Go Team USA!

By Monica C. RSS Tue, July 1, 2014

It's World Cup time and all over the world billions of people are watching (and cheering!) for their teams.  Soccer is a truly international sport, and it continues to gain more and more appeal in the US.

For little kids, soccer is already a very popular sport, and for good reason: it's easy to learn, promotes fitness and  teamwork -- and it's just plain fun!

Here are three titles about soccer to share with your little athlete:

My First Soccer Game by Alyssa Satin Capucilli; photographs by Leyah Jensen

Fold out pages and bright color photographs are used to explain soccer concepts and practices.

Betty Bunny Wants a Goal by Michael B. Kaplan; illustrations by Stephane Jorisch

Popular character Betty Bunny is back and she wants to play soccer (and score many, many goals!)  After a disappointing first game, Betty Bunny's family encourages her to keep trying.

Happy Like Soccer by Marybeth Boelts; illustrations by Lauren Castillo

For soccer games Sierra rides a bus out of the city to fields that are nicer than the "lot" in her neighborhood, but so her auntie can be at her last game, she asks Coach Marco if the team might play in her neighborhood on a day her aunt does not work

Available right now at the Free Library.  For more titles check your local library!
