We wanted to let you, our valued customers, know of some proposed changes to our Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped that will impact the ability to check out talking books. The state has proposed a plan to move some of our collection of talking books to the regional library in Pittsburgh while taking out of circulation many other copies.

If you come to our Library at 919 Walnut Street we will not be able to assist you with talking books. To check out these books, you would have to call a phone number in Pittsburgh to reserve them and then have them mailed back to you here in the Delaware Valley.

The Free Library would like this plan to be put on hold so that it can be further studied to determine if it makes sense. The change would not save the state any money.

If you would like to maintain library services and have a say in how those services are delivered to you, we encourage you to call your state legislator and ask that this plan to move materials from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh be stopped, and request that customers, like you, be involved in plans for the future of this service.
