By Eileen O. RSS Wed, November 9, 2011

2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the Free Library’s One Book, One Philadelphia program. In its 10 years, One Book has made an incredible impact on Philadelphia. Each year, the One Book selection is checked out of the Free Library an average of 3,000 times, and in the 10 years since its inception, it has provided free books to more than 44,000 students in Philadelphia.

The Free Library is incredibly proud of the One Book program. The featured selections over the years have created an impressive legacy—one that continues with Create Dangerously by Edwidge Danticat, the 2012 One Book featured selection. The previous selections include:

2003: Lorene Cary, The Price of a Child
2004: James McBride, The Color of Water
2005: Tim O’Brien, The Things They Carried
2006: Benjamin Franklin, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin; Robert Lawson, Ben and Me; James Srodes, Franklin: The Essential Founding Father
2007: Carlos Eire, Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy

2009: Steve Lopez, The Soloist
