The Free Library has a longstanding partnership with the Philadelphia Phillies. This year, they are once again one of the sponsors of our Summer Reading Game. To show our appreciation, we make every effort to support them too. The Staff Association of the Free Library booked a block of tickets for Wednesday night's game. More than 100 of our employees and their friends and family attended a whopper of a game. It all came down to the bottom of the ninth when we were still trailing the Florida Marlins by 4-2. With two outs already, Shane Victorino came to the plate and knocked in the tying runs. Ryan Madson, in relief, held the Marlins scoreless in the top of the tenth. When Ryan Howard was hit by the first pitch in the next half, he represented the winning run on first. Two batters later, our hero, Carlos Ruiz, laced a line drive to center field, and Ryan scored. Cheers of "Chooch, Chooch" abounded. Jubilation on the field and in the stands! A good time was had by all. Thank you Phillies for a most enjoyable evening and for sponsoring the Library.
