As the days lengthen and the temperature warms, I find myself daydreaming of summer vacations and world travels. My ideas are always bigger than my budget, so I like to engage in a healthy dose of armchair traveling. Below are some of my favorite travel-related books. I know there are so many good titles I'm missing, so please chime in in the comments with your recommendations, too!
- The Best American Travel Writing (all editions, of course!)
- Anything by Bill Bryson, but especially Notes from a Small Island, In a Sunburned Country, A Walk in the Woods, The Lost Continent: Travels in Small Town America, and Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe
- Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck
- The House on Dream Street by Dana Sachs
- Beyond the Sky and Earth: A Journey into Bhutan by Jamie Zeppa
- A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway
- Paul Bowles: Collected Stories and Later Writings by Paul Bowles
- Imagined London by Anna Quindlen
- Fresh Air Fiend by Paul Theroux
When you can't afford the plane ticket, a book is the next best thing!

I just love Frances Mayes "Under the Tuscan Sun: At Home in Italy". It's completely different than the movie, but both stand on their own, in my opinion. It could also be considered "armchair cooking".

I just read ''Imagined London by Anna Quindlen'', and what i think about that book is amazing!!!
I really loved the plot of the book..
The irresistible charm of a city inhabited every corner, from fiction and literature. An unusual journey, cultured and vibrant. A purely literary path crossed with the precision of a valuable guide to the city.
I recommend a book to read at all.
