Happy St. David's Day!

By Michelle S. RSS Tue, March 1, 2011

March 1 is Saint David's Day--a national day in the United Kindom recognizing the patron saint of Wales. As a student in Swansea, Wales, I remember being taken by the proliferation of daffodils everywhere from shop windows to bus drivers' lapels. It's a cheerful and celebratory day, and it always reminds me that spring is just around the corner.

In recognition of Saint David's Day, I thought I'd share one of my favorite poems by Dylan Thomas, who was from Swansea.

Notes On The Art Of Poetry
I could never have dreamt that there were such goings-on
in the world between the covers of books,
such sandstorms and ice blasts of words,
such staggering peace, such enormous laughter,
such and so many blinding bright lights,
splashing all over the pages
in a million bits and pieces
all of which were words, words, words,
and each of which were alive forever
in its own delight and glory and oddity and light.
