Early Literacy Sparks Life Long Learning

Books Aloud! is the Free Library’s early literacy program. The goal of the program is to encourage parents and child care providers to READ, SING, PLAY, TALK, and WRITE with children in the early years. We also encourage adults to borrow books from the Free Library so that there are always books available for the little ones.

Attend a Books Aloud! session to learn more about early literacy. Every workshop features interactive literacy activities and a free book for participants!

Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library, 68 W. Chelten Avenue
The second Wednesday of the Month @ 6:30 p.m.

The first and third Wednesday of the Month @ 6:30pm

Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street – Skyline Room
The third Saturday of the Month @ 1:30 p.m.

I sell a very original early literacy resource-- fairly traded and hand made in Bolivia! 3 Bags Full Finger Puppet Pouches are original story bags that come with 8 knit finger puppets in a knit carrying bag. The bag doubles as a story board, because the puppets can be snapped into a scene that has been painted on the front of the bag. They come in 6 themes--arctic, farm, jungle, garden ocean and woods. And each bag also includes a list of suggested storybooks to be used with the various themes. This idea was developed by a group called Ayni Bolivia. I love reading books aloud to children because it is just fun. Not only are they reading it and learning something but I'm reading it and I'm also learning something so I think htat it is truely amazing
