New Online Community for the Teen Literati

By Michelle S. RSS Mon, January 3, 2011

There's a new online community for young writers creating quite a buzz -- figment.com. Created by Jacob Lewis, former managing editor at The New Yorker and New Yorker staff writer Dana Goodyear, Figment aims to be "the social network for young-adult fiction," according to Lewis. On Figment, teens can share their writing, connect with other readers and writers, and discover new favorite peer authors--all completely for free. The website features a library of shared writing with commenting features that allow you to offer your opinions and reactions, discussion forums, featured essays from published writers, contests, and more. I would have absolutely loved an online writing community like this when I was a teenager. If you know (or are!) a budding young novelist or poet, I definitely recommend checking out Figment.
