Andrea’s career in inventing began in 1994, after she read a newspaper article describing how the internet would allow people to shop online for clothing. At the time, Andrea ran a fashion house, designing, manufacturing, and distributing her own clothing designs. She began to imagine an internet-based system that would allow shoppers to create a model of their own body type based on six measurements, and to use the model to try on clothes virtually.
Andrea Rose created and patented a shopping system that did just that. In August of 1997, she was issued her first patent for her "System and Method for Fashion Shopping" by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent quickly proved its worth. Within the month of its issue, Andrea saw her patented invention advertised on a TV commercial. After seeking legal advice, she sought an action of infringement against the company supplying stores around the country with her patented system. The litigation was settled amicably, and Andrea was able to license her patent to the supplying company.
Andrea’s patented system revolutionized online shopping, and she was awarded Female Inventor of the Year by Ocean Tomo. Today, Andrea has many patents, trademarks, and over 100 inventions in her portfolio. She founded the Inventor’s Road Show and now conducts workshops with other inventors and entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the path to turn their vision into a reality.
