Spring Into a New Career With Free Virtual Career Workshops

Spring is the season of growth and renewal. Do your new goals include getting a new job, pivoting to a new field, or learning some new skills? 

Check out upcoming virtual career workshops for jobseekers at the Free Library, brought to you by Full Circle Group and JEVS Human Services! Workshops taught by Full Circle Group are made possible in part by Citizens. All workshops are free, but registration is required. Participants will be emailed Zoom meeting information upon registration. 

 

Excel Simple Formula Writing and Page Setup Tuesday, March 7: 3:00 PM–4:30 PM

Interested in learning Excel Basics? This session can introduce you to some of the most commonly used features! 

This workshop starts with an overview of Excel interface elements, moving into selection of cell ranges, and progressing to how to build simple formulas. After that, you’ll learn about some basic functions using the Auto Sum button and Auto Sum List, and other great features like Auto Fill, Auto Complete, and Auto Calculate. How about some tips on getting your Excel documents to print nicely on paper? We’ll cover some great Page Setup features to help you with that!

Job Search Applications & Keyword Tips Thursday, March 9: 3:00 PM–4:00 PM

This is a good session for job seekers new to computers! Pick up some great suggestions on how best to apply for jobs. Learn some helpful tips on completing job applications, and using keywords and phrases to grab the hiring manager’s attention.

Changing Careers, Branding, and Elevator Speech Tuesday, March 21: 12:00 PM–1:30 PM

During this workshop you will learn: 

  • The definition of a personal brand
  • How to position yourself in the employment marketplace
  • The difference between hard and soft skills
  • Which skills are most highly sought-after and transferable
  • How to bring hard and soft skills into your job search
  • How to use hard and soft skills to change jobs and careers
  • How to make yourself memorable

Networking Thursday, March 23: 3:00 PM–4:00 PM

Did you know that networking is the best way to get a job? Did you know successful networkers network three to five times per week during a job search? Attend this workshop and learn the networking strategies you need to know to land your next job.

How to Answer Tough Interview Questions Tuesday, March 25: 11:00 AM–12:00 PM

During this workshop you will learn: 

  • Stories sell. Learn how to describe work accomplishments in a way that truly convinces the interviewer that you’re their #1 candidate.
  • Best answers to the toughest questions such as, “What is your greatest weakness?”

QuickBooks Basics Tuesday, April 11: 12:00 PM–1:30 PM

Get started with QuickBooks by understanding the interface, learning common accounting terms, working with the chart of accounts, and how to add and edit QuickBooks lists. Learn how to create/edit invoices and bills, process payments, and reconcile your accounts to verify that your QuickBooks account records match the bank’s records.

Excel Range Names and PivotTables Thursday, April 13: 3:00 PM–4:30 PM

Learn how to use named ranges and assign names to a cell or range of cells in a workbook. We’ll also explore PivotTables, a powerful tool for summarizing, analyzing, exploring, and presenting data, extracted from larger amounts of data elsewhere in an Excel workbook. Come learn the basics!

Active Interviewing Strategies Tuesday, April 18: 12:00 PM–1:30 PM

During this workshop you will learn:

  • How to actively communicate the information you want the interviewer to know
  • How to answer any interview question
  • Important questions you need to ask in every interview
  • Psychological strategies for winning over interviewers

During this workshop you will learn:

  • How to analyze your resume from the point of view of a recruiter
  • Costly resume errors to avoid at any cost

  • How to handle resume challenges including employment gaps, age, multiple short-term jobs

During this workshop you will learn:

  • How to build an effective LinkedIn profile that attracts the attention of recruiters

  • Tips to find and apply for jobs, and the importance of following up with the right people
