The Nonprofit Job Fair returns to Parkway Central Library on October 13 and the Business Resource and Innovation Center staff have the resources to help you make a great first impression! Use these tools to learn what makes job seeking in the nonprofit and social impact sectors unique.

If you are a first-time job seeker, or if you are considering switching from the private to nonprofit sector, check out the Idealist Guide to Nonprofit Careers. This comprehensive text offers great information on what embarking on a career in nonprofits really means, so that you can determine if working for a nonprofit is really a good fit for you. The Guide also offers no-nonsense advice on the realities of the nonprofit job market, the importance of networking, and recommendations for how to best approach the interview process. Idealist's Guide to ... Career Paths in the Social-Impact Space is also a helpful read for anyone interested in a career in the social sector.

Candid Learning is a great source for finding quick and reliable information on all aspects of nonprofit work—including employment. This site offers recommendations on how to adjust your resume for a nonprofit job listing and how to locate salary information to help you intelligently negotiate. Plus, they have great articles and trainings to help you brush up on common nonprofit job skills like fundraising and proposal writing!

Looking to impress the hiring manager with your knowledge on trends in the nonprofit field? Visit Issue Lab to gain subject expertise with access to the latest free research from social sector organizations around the world. You can also browse the Chronicle of Philanthropy and other periodicals in the Regional Foundation Center for the latest trends and information on the nonprofit sector.

When it comes to nailing the interview, researching the hiring organization is key. Visit the Regional Foundation Center at the Parkway Central Library for free onsite access to Foundation Directory and Guidestar (also available remotely) to help you gain the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on recent grants, financial information, and organizational movement.

The Free Library offers a number of great workshops for job seekers. Check out our events calendar of upcoming events at the Parkway Central Library and your local neighborhood library.
