Celebrate National Library Week Virtually With the Free Library

PHILADELPHIA, April 20, 2020—This year, National Library Week (April 19-25) is taking place while Philadelphians and people around the world cannot visit their neighborhood libraries in person. However, during National Library Week, and every week, customers can join the Library through a number of virtual programs, digital resources, and ways to reach librarians.

“Free Library staff has been creative in finding ways to provide resources, assistance, and material during the ongoing pandemic. During this time, we know that access to information is crucial, and National Library Week was created to celebrate the libraries and staff members working tirelessly to bring that information to customers even now,” said Siobhan A. Reardon, President and Director of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

While library buildings remain closed, the Free Library continues to provide access to many materials and databases, thanks to its already robust collection of electronic resources. Customers can check out ebooks, stream movies and music at freelibrary.org/digitalmedia. Visit freelibrary.org/elearning to find study materials, learn a language, or take an online class.

If customers need assistance, tips, or recommendations, librarians are still ready to serve, and can be reached through email at freelibrary.org/ask and can also be reached via text message! Send a text to 66746 and start the body of the text with keyword askfree then a space, followed by a question.

The Free Library of Philadelphia has always welcomed its customers into its buildings to share information, build community, and learn together. Now, many customers are instead welcoming the Library into their homes through virtual programs. There are a number of virtual storytimes, lectures, author events, and other programs taking place on our website. See the full selection at freelibrary.org/virtualprograms.

The Free Library of Philadelphia looks forward to seeing customers return to learn, explore, and play at its locations. Until then, find all the Library has to offer at freelibrary.org.
