FREE LIBRARY BUSINESS RESOURCE AND INNOVATION CENTER LAUNCHES “PITCH CORNER”
BRIC to offer customers space to practice a job pitch in front of a video camera
PHILADELPHIA, May 2, 2017—The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Business Resources and Innovation Center (BRIC) is excited to announce the launch of the Pitch Corner, a new tool for entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and job seekers. It is a semi-private space in the Parkway Central Library’s BRIC where library users can practice their pitch in front of a video camera. The space also holds a collection of books and articles users can refer to for inspiration.
The space offers a video camera and tripod, as well as a large backdrop against which to shoot. Business librarians will be available to help users get started; their video will be emailed to them via Google Drive within 48 hours. Users will then be able to analyze and improve their skills after seeing their own business pitch on video. This service is intended to help entrepreneurs and small business owners with their elevator pitch, those working in nonprofit with their development pitch, and job seekers preparing for commonly asked interview questions or working on pitching themselves and their job skills.
The BRIC will host a grand-opening event for the space, Get Your Pitch On, on Wednesday, May 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. During this interactive workshop, attendees will learn the elements of a good pitch and have access to the Pitch Corner to practice. Advance registration is required; to register, participants should contact erefbsi@freelibrary.org or 215-686-5394.
Beginning Thursday, May 18, the Pitch Corner will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as well as the first Wednesday of every month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funding for the Pitch Corner comes from the Library’s Strategic Initiatives Hatching Innovation funding pool, which supports new and exciting staff-led projects, professional development opportunities, and material needs for programming and public services. Funding is awarded throughout the year to creative and forward-leaning initiatives that meet the objectives of the Library’s strategic plan. Staff is encouraged to think of novel, experimental ideas that can serve the public in new ways.
