FREE LIBRARY TO HOST JOB FAIRS THROUGHOUT CITY
Fair and workshop just some of the many job-related services resources provided by the Library
PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2017—Over the next several months, the Free Library of Philadelphia will present a series of job fairs, made possible by Citizens Bank, at the Parkway Central Library and at select libraries throughout the city, as part of their many programs and services available for Philadelphia’s job seekers. On May 31 in the Free Library’s Culinary Literacy Center, Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, president of Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, announced the series and a gift of $25,000 from Citizens Bank.
The first job fair in the series will take place on Friday, June 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Northeast Regional Library.
With companies from across the Philadelphia region participating, there will be plenty of opportunities for job seekers to learn about open positions, talk to prospective employers, and share their résumés. In addition, job seekers can attend a résumé-critique clinic and workshops about internet job searching and how to use the Library’s career databases. The fair is free and no registration is required. More information can be found at freelibrary.org/jobfairs.
Additional upcoming job fairs will be taking place at the following Free Library locations:
- Parkway Central Library (food and hospitality focus), 1901 Vine St., on Wednesday, September 6
- Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library, 68 W. Chelten Ave., on Thursday, September 14
- Paschalville Library, 6942 Woodland Ave., on Friday, October 6
- Parkway Central Library (nonprofit focus and networking), 1901 Vine St., on Thursday, October 26
“Following the success of last year’s job fairs at the Free Library, we are excited about the diversification of the series focus, which allows us to reach more communities where jobseekers can benefit from our workforce development programs,” said Dan Fitzpatrick. “The program continues to offer access to workforce development events across the city that will enable more job seekers to access employment-opportunity databases and work with career specialists on résumé writing, online applications, and interview tips.”
“I, too, am pleased that the Free Library is able to offer multiple job fairs throughout the city for Philadelphia’s job seekers to connect with area employers and learn about new career opportunities,” said Free Library President and Director Siobhan A. Reardon. “Our annual entry-level job fair at the Parkway Central Library proved so successful over the past few years, and we are delighted to extend the series to new employment sectors—food, hospitality, and nonprofit—so that as many people as possible can land that new job, next job, or better job.”
The Free Library’s career services hub, the Workplace at Parkway Central, provides free access to computers for job searching and skill-building exercises, résumé and cover letter preparation, and assistance with job applications online, as well as career-related print materials, including books, magazines, and newspapers. The Job Readiness Lab at Paschalville Library in Southwest Philadelphia is a great neighborhood library option for job seekers. In addition, the Free Library’s Regional Foundation Center at Parkway Central regularly publishes job listings for the nonprofit sector.
