New Gittings, Stonewall Book Awards, and PFLAG Exhibition Now on View at Parkway Central Library
Now on view at the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library is Gittings, Stonewall Book Awards, and PFLAG, a new exhibition showcasing the life and work of impassioned LGBTQ rights activist Barbara Gittings. The exhibition shines light on the incredible and important protests led by Gittings, Coordinator of the American Library Association’s Gay Task Force, and features key moments from her life including her first protest march at Independence Hall 50 years ago, as well as books and materials important in the life of the LGBTQ community from the pre-Stonewall era to today. Gittings, Stonewall Book Awards, and PFLAG is part of the citywide recognition of Reminder 2015, recognizing the 50th anniversary of the important march at Independence Hall that took place on July 4, 1965, and played a pivotal role in developing a national LGBTQ rights movement.

Gittings, Stonewall Book Awards, and PFLAG is on view in the Parkway Central Library’s West Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public during the building’s operating hours, Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Free Library is also proud to feature the permanent Barbara Gittings Gay and Lesbian Collection at the Independence Library, 18 S. 7th St.
