FREE LIBRARY TO HOST ENTRY-LEVEL JOB FAIRS THROUGHOUT CITY
Over the next several months, the Free Library of Philadelphia will present a series of entry-level job fairs, made possible by Citizens Bank Foundation, at the Parkway Central Library and at select libraries throughout the city, as part of their many programs and services available for Philadelphia’s job seekers.
Hosted by the Free Library’s Workplace, the first entry-level job fair in the series will take place on Thursday, May 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Parkway Central Library. Remarks from Siobhan A. Reardon, Free Library President and Director, and Dan Fitzpatrick, President, Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania, will accompany a check presentation at 10:30 a.m.
With companies from across the Philadelphia region participating, there will be plenty of opportunities for job seekers to learn about open positions, talk to prospective employers, and share their résumés. In addition, job seekers can attend a résumé critique clinic and workshops about internet job searching and how to use the Library’s career databases. Free tickets are available online at freelibrary.org/jobfairs or in-person at the Parkway Central Library.

• Northeast Regional Library, 2228 Cottman Ave., on Friday, June 19
• Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library, 68 W. Chelten Ave., on Saturday, August 29
• McPherson Square Library, 601 E. Indiana Ave., on Friday, September 25
• Paschalville Library, 6942 Woodland Ave., on Thursday, October 8
• Katharine Drexel Library, 11099 Knights Rd., on Friday, October 23
“Following the success of last year’s job fair at the Free Library’s main branch, we are excited about the expansion of the event which allows us to reach more communities where jobseekers can benefit from our workforce development programs,” said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, President, Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “By adding five new locations, the program will offer increased access to workforce development events across the city that will enable more job seekers to access employment opportunity databases and work with career specialists on resume writing, online applications and interview tips.”
“I, too, am pleased that the Free Library is able to offer multiple job fairs throughout the city for Philadelphia’s job seekers to connect with area employers and learn about new career opportunities,” said Siobhan A. Reardon. “Our annual entry-level job fair at the Parkway Central Library proved so successful over the past few years, and we are delighted to extend it to additional libraries throughout Philadelphia so that as many people as possible can land that new job, next job, or better job.”
The Free Library’s career services hub, the Workplace at Parkway Central provides free access to computers for job searching and skill-building exercises, résumé and cover letter preparation, and assistance with job applications online, as well as career-related print materials, including books, magazines, and newspapers. In addition, the Free Library’s Regional Foundation Center at Parkway Central regularly publishes job listings for the non-profit sector.
