FREE LIBRARY HOSTS POPULAR CHILDREN’S AUTHORS TO CELEBRATE CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK
Authors discuss their inspiration and their path to becoming writers
PHILADELPHIA, May 1, 2012 – The Free Library is proud to host three popular children’s authors—Dan Gutman, Michael Townsend, and Jacqueline Woodson—in honor of National Children’s Book Week. The authors will discuss their inspirations for their work and talk about their journey to becoming writers. Each program will include a question and answer session with the audience. These special programs, which are part of the Margaret S. Halloran Family Literacy Programming Series, take place in the Montgomery Auditorium at Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street, on the following dates:
• Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.: Dan Gutman, author of the My Weird School, Baseball Card Adventures, and Genius Files series.
• Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.: Michael Townsend, author of the Kit Feeny series, Billy Tartle, Monkey and Elephant’s Worst Fight Ever, and Amazing Greek Myths of Wonder and Blunder
• Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.: Jacqueline Woodson, author of The Other Side, Show Way, Feathers, and Locomotion
“We’re delighted to host this special series of renowned children’s authors as part of Children’s Book Week,” said Irene Wright, head of the Parkway Central Children’s Department. “As the Free Library of Growing Imaginations, we pride ourselves on bringing to Philadelphia wonderful events that enchant and inspire children, instilling in them a lifelong love of literacy.”
In addition to this special series, throughout the month of May, Philadelphia children’s authors’ and illustrators’ books will be on display in the Parkway Central Children’s Department.
Program Note: School classes must be registered in advance for the Monday and Friday programs; there will be limited seating for parents and their children. The Saturday event is for families with children in Kindergarten through grade 4. Each program will run about one hour.
