FREE LIBRARY’S WORKPLACE WEDNESDAYS ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER-DECEMBER SESSIONS

Parkway Central career workshops cover everything from résumés to interview skills

PHILADELPHIA, October 11, 2011—The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library is pleased to offer a new series of Workplace Wednesday workshops beginning November 2, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Offered in two-month series from September through June, the free workshops teach participants about all aspects of job hunting.

“Workplace Wednesdays continue to be a valuable service for the Philadelphia community,” said Siobhan A. Reardon, Free Library President and Director. “As the Free Library of Opportunity, we are proud to equip customers with the tools and knowledge necessary to transform their lives as they look for their next job!”

During Workplace Wednesdays, instructors work with adult job seekers to help them identify skills and find the right job “fit”—from there, classes focus on résumé writing, internet resources for job hunters, and interviewing skills. The new series line-up is: Skills Assessment (November 2); Career Decision Making (November 9); How to Write a Résumé (November 16); Résumé Critique (November 30); Job Hunting Tips and Techniques (December 7); Interviewing Skills (December 14); Library and Internet Resources for Job Seekers (December 21).

During the past 23 years, Workplace Wednesdays at the Parkway Central Library have helped more than 11,000 Philadelphians with career and employment issues. Last year alone, nearly 1,000 individuals found jobs as a direct result of Library resources like the Workplace. Located on the second floor of Parkway Central, it offers public-access computers, print materials, and knowledgeable librarians to help customers.

Workplace Wednesdays are held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Director’s Dining Room (Rm. 406) on the fourth floor of Parkway Central. For more information on the workshops and the Workplace, as well as sign-up details, please call 215-686-5436.

Workplace Wednesdays are made possible by a generous grant from the Wrede Foundation.
