FREE LIBRARY HOSTS ART MUSEUM’S NEW C.E.O. FOR 11TH ANNUAL ROBERT F. LOONEY EVENT
Timothy Rub to present keynote lecture on printmaking at March 19 event, which also includes debut of new exhibition and silent auction

PHILADELPHIA, March 19—In celebration of the memory of art aficionado and Free Library curator Robert F. Looney, the Parkway Central Library will host the 11th annual Robert F. Looney Lecture on Friday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. This year’s program will kick off with Prints and Printmaking in the 21st Century, a free lecture led by Timothy Rub, the new C.E.O. of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

An exhibition, titled Mark/Remarque: A Collaborative Portfolio and Other Work by Philadelphia Printmakers, will also debut on March 19. Located in the Free Library’s West Gallery, the exhibition will run through June 20 and feature the collaborative portfolio Philadelphia Mark:Remarque, which consists of 28 prints by Philadelphia artists; one additional print by each artist; and several remarqued prints from the Free Library’s Print and Picture Collection. Remarque is a historical printmaking term referring to rarity, testing, concept amplification, and boundary extension. Curated by Rochelle Toner, the portfolio was created for the Southern Graphics Council Conference, which will be held this year in Philadelphia from March 24 to 28.

The 6:00 p.m. lecture by Timothy Rub will be followed by a ticketed reception, at which attendees can enjoy refreshments and bid on affordable artwork donated by many established and emerging local artists. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Print and Picture Collection. The Robert F. Looney Memorial Event is part of Philagrafika 2010, Philadelphia’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art.
