Caught in the Crossfire: Children and Violence in Philadelphia
What: The third installment of Talk About It! @ the Central Library, a FREE, public talk/debate series on timely current events, tackles the issue of youth violence in Philadelphia with “Caught in the Crossfire: Children and Violence in Philadelphia.”
Who: Michael Eric Dyson, Moderator
When: Wednesday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Montgomery Auditorium, Central Library, 19th and Vine
Why: It is difficult to envision an issue of greater importance to the City of Philadelphia today than stemming the tide of violence in our community. We all know the facts: as homicides in other major cities continue to fall, Philadelphia’s statistics are growing exponentially.
The Free Library of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) are co-sponsoring a Talk About It! to discuss this issue. The citywide summit will explore our shared responsibility in addressing the multitude of issues which give rise to increased violence. Michael Eric Dyson, University of Pennsylvania professor and author of twelve books, is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the subject of youth violence and will act as moderator.
